I have been trawling through the information HESA has supplied to the
Financial Times for its League tables in respect of 1996/97. I would be
interested in views on the definitions used in Item 7 - FTE students by
Location of Study - which I find somewhat curious.
I see that LOCSDY codes 2,3,6,7 are lumped together as "franchised". In
Bradford's case code 2 includes a couple of collaborative courses which we
would not regard as franchises ( either in or out). (Roughly, these are
joint courses where the students register with us and get our degrees but
do some study at the partner institutions, in return for which we teach
students registered at the partner for some of their course.)
Rather more curiously code 6 - distance learning - is treated as
franchised. At Bradford this includes extramural research students, where
there is generally no other teaching institution involved.
Any comments?
