WORKING SMARTER...RE-DESIGNING UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION:
PEOPLE, PROCESS AND TECHNOLOGY
Themes:
Historically, universities' administration processes have evolved
informally, on the basis of local or immediate need. They have not been
co-ordinated in a way which reflects the needs of academic, professional
support staff nor our end-customers - the students. But times have
changed. Universities now need to operate with decreasing units of
resource, increasing student-staff ratios and in a diverse and changing
external environment with the implications of Dearing still unclear.
To deliver improved services in this climate of change requires more
efficient, consistent and cost-effective administrative systems which are
student-focused and provide a more rewarding work environment for staff.
We need to be working smarter...not harder. Increasingly universities are
engaged in exercise to review, re-design and significantly improve their
business and administration processes.
Many of these review exercises employ Business Process Re-engineering
(BPR) or similar methodologies. This major conference will address these
issues and review the application of Business Process Re-engineering (BPR)
in the Higher Education sector.
The conference programme will consist of three main themes as follows:
Process - re-designing university administrative processes
People - Implementing and managing change
Information - Supporting re-design with IT.
The emphasis this year will be on the 'People' issues.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
The conference will be of interest to anyone involved in university
management and administration or those recognising the need for innovation
in the way universities operate. Researchers and consultants in the field
of organisational change are also welcome.

The event will run from 11.00 on Thursday 16th September to 13.30 on
Friday 17th September. Accommodation will be in University Halls
of Residence.
RESIDENTIAL FEE 195 (one hundred and ninety five) pounds sterling covers
accommodation and all meals including a Reception and Conference Dinner at
Stafford County Building on Thursday 16th September with Dr.Peter Knight -
Vice Chancellor of UCE as the after-dinner speaker.
NON-RESIDENTIAL FEE (Includes reception and dinner) 173 pounds sterling
NON-RESDIENTIAL FEE (Excluding reception and dinner) 143 pounds sterling

Note: Cancellations must be made at least 14 days prior to the event.
There will be a 10% cancellation fee. No refund if cancellation is at
