I just wanted to copy admin-planning in on a note I sent to university PR
officers last week.

Following some discussion between CVCP and the Sunday Times, the paper has
now issued the questionnaire for its 1999 University Guide. I'm pleased that
they have given more notice this year than last!
They have taken on board some of our suggestions. However, as you will see,
there are two areas that might cause problems.
They have agreed to take from HESA much of the data they want - this will
relate to 1997/8. However they are also asking institutions to supply
1998/9 data if they wish. Clearly this could result in data that are not
comparable and we have pointed this out to them.
Secondly, they are asking for data from the forthcoming Funding Councils
Performance Indicators. They are seeking only a limited part of that data.
Moreover, these figures are still at a consultation stage and will not be
published formally until September ish.
You may wish to take these points into account when deciding whether to
offer this extra data to the newspaper.
This note is going to CVCP members and to university press officers
