The following was posted to the TRIP mailbase this morning and nobody
has yet cross-posted it to UTSG, so here goes. I hope this is within
the remit of the UTSG list.

I have been invited to organise a Traffic and Transportation
Telematics session at the IEEE conference Electrotechnological
Services for Africa AFRICON'99 to be held on 29/09/99 - 01/10/99
in Cape Town, South Africa.
I would like to know whether you would be interested in
participating in this conference which, I would hope, will
open new horizons for the trafic telematics research.
The conference deadlines are as follows:
Submission of abstracts (100-200 words) - 15th February '99
Acceptance of abstracts - 1st March '99
Submission of papers - 1st April '99
Acceptance of papers - 10th June '99
Advance registration deadline - 15th July '99
Conference and tutorials - 28th Sept - 1st Oct. '99
Abstracts should preferably be submitted electronically to
facilitate quick response. The information about the format
of the full papers will be supplied to the authors of the
accepted abstracts
Background information:
AFRICON is one of the major international conferences sponsored
by Region 8 of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic
Engineers (IEEE). Previous AFRICON conferences were held in
Nairobi (1983), Abidjan (1987), Mbabane (1992) and
Stellenbosch (1996). AFRICON '99 is hosted by the Cape Technikon
in association with IEEE, SAIEE and the FRD.
Cape Town, South Africa's mother city and capital of the Western
Cape, has a magnificient natural setting. Its majestic mountain
range, surrounded by pristine beaches, with Table Mountain and
its rich indigeneous plant life as high point, is one of the world's
great floral kingdoms. After a cable car ride up Table Mountain one
has to agree with Sir Francis Drake who called it 'the fairest Cape in
all the circumference of the earth'.
