I have enclosed a job announcement for a tenure track assistant professor
position in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the
University of California-Irvine. We are interested in receiving
applications from persons with research interests in several areas,
including transportation. The committee is interested in candidates with
research interests in the behavioral aspects of transportation.
The successful applicant should have some background in applied
microeconomics and quantitative methods, including, for example, research
experience in travel demand models, transportation finance, transportation
and the economy, or land use-transportation interactions. Persons with
other interests that link transportation and the behavioral sciences are
encouraged to apply. We especially seek candidates who can link their
research to environmental aspects of transportation policy.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
URBAN PUBLIC FINANCE AND APPLIED ECONOMICS
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of
California, Irvine is seeking to fill a tenure-track assistant professor
position, appointment beginning July 2000. The successful candidate should
have the potential for outstanding research and teaching, linking
expertise in urban public finance and applied economics to at least one of
the following subjects: (1) environmental and natural resource planning,
(2) local economic development, (3) transportation. We especially seek a
candidate with strong quantitative skills who has knowledge of, and
appreciation for, the political and institutional features of the
candidate's areas of interest. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in urban
planning, public policy, economics, political science, geography, regional
science, or a related field.
The Department is in the multi-disciplinary School of Social Ecology on
the Irvine campus. The Department and campus have internationally
recognized strengths in urban and regional economics, environmental and
natural resource planning, and transportation planning. The Department has
13 full-time faculty representing the disciplines of urban planning,
public policy, architecture, environmental health, geography, regional
science, and law and more than 30 full-time master's students and 15 Ph.D.
students. The Irvine campus currently enrolls about 17,500 students and is
located 40 miles south of Los Angeles in a dynamic, complex urban region
of 2.5 million people. Salary and other compensation are competitive with
