Greetings from the southern hemisphere!
To all of you who are about to leave (or have already left) for the
long, hot summer, spare a thought for those of us who have to wait until
Christmas!
We are currently looking at ways of carrying out travel surveys for the
Regional Council here in Wellington in order to update the 4-stage model
of the Region. Last time was done was in 1988 and exactly what was done
then is shrouded in the mists of time, although it appeared to be a
series of about 3000 household interviews which picked up about 30,000
trips.
We do not have to replicate this and are looking at whether some
combination of techniques - eg household plus on-bus - would be more
cost-effective. Related topics include sample size and home visit vs
telephone survey.
Does anyone over there have any recent experience of this type of thing,
any comments, suggestions, references etc? All contributions gratefully
received.
