Dear David,
Hitting the proverbial nail on the head --yes, that's it. Reading through
Robin's apology for the one of the G&S characters --CampPo --now CamCamp --
he finds that Prynne differs from the others because he is postmodernist and
works to skew or to minimise
syntactical relations and reach an
irreducible objecthood of the word,
as an equal counterpart to an
irreducible objecthood of the
thing.
Wow. I am enlightened. If we take out "irreducible objecthood" which has no
meaning, we have:
works to skew minimise
syntactical relations and reach
the word as an equal counterpart
to the thing
word ---- thing
I think I have it now. Word. Thing.
Next we have Keston the Mystic referring to things that we don't
know --because Prynne's texts "are
ridiculously difficult to get hold of". And then the piece de la
resistance:
Prynne attacks the notion of the reader's
supposed freedom to create the meaning of a text as spurious and
complicit with a free market ideology?
Does Prynne read? I think so. So
Prynne attacks the notion of his supposed freedom to create the meaning of a
text
as spurious and complicit with a free market ideology.
This is rarefied bunkum at its best. The jargon used, protocol , free
market ideology, --is a mish-mash of words borrowed from computer
programming and New Socialism. Take away the hype and we are left with the
brand name CamPo, and
and defenders of the faith --in what? Poetry that is programmed? Poetry that
is politically ok? Poetry that is postmodern?
Poetry that is --- better than LangPo? I think not. There is not much to
choose between the two, only perhaps that CamPo tries hard to justify
playing with rocks more so than LangPo.
