Once more, the magazine scheduled for tonight will have to be postponed.
That - once again - a piece of work has not been sent as promised could be
overcome, but there's also a problem with getting decent repro today. THAT
could be overcome by spending an extra £20 but the money isn't available...
.
The two poets reading tonight had their work in within deadline so thanks
and deep apologies to them.
The delayed issues WILL be published. During the summer considerable thought
will have to be given to the magazine with the aim of avoiding future
delays. There seems to be considerable support for it...
Expansion of the magazine beyond the series readers was both a long-intended
development and a way of coping with missed deadlines; but it hasn't worked
out.
.
For anyone interested, below is the text of the editorial from tonight's
delayed magazine

EDITORIAL
Firstly, could everyone pay attention to the need to make each other feel a
part of the audience by being open to all. This is not a suggestion that we
sink any aesthetic differences we may have or a desire to create a club
atmosphere...
One has the opportunity to meet a range of people at SVP and they are all
interesting to speak with if you give them a chance. In particular, it is
suggested that we all resist a tendency to sit just with our own age group.
(We are more radical than that surely!)
Secondly -
With the reading scheduled for 6 7 99, SVP closes its spring / summer season
and closes as a reading series until the latter half of September 1999
Planning for the autumn season has been constrained by the possibility that
the fourth SV colloquium would be held in November 1999. However, it seems
increasingly likely that the colloquium will be put back to some date in
2000. Details of the autumn reading series will be announced in early
September. (As usual, of course, much of it is already known and published
in this magazine and at the new SVP website -
http://www2.crosswinds.net/members/~subvoicivepoetry/
Sub Voicive was founded in 1980. Thus, at the end of the coming season there
will be some justification for claiming that SVP is 20 years old although
the actual anniversary will occur during the following season
It is an immense age for a reading series, but demonstrates the solidity and
importance of the original idea. SVP, as it is, is a somewhat different
thing to the SV started by Gilbert Adair nearly 20 years ago; but, while the
series has changed throughout its existence and continues to do so, it
retains its commitment to the adventurous, innovative, investigative and
restless in poetry. It offers an immensely wide programme.
To continue to do so, it needs your support. Verbal and financial support
are welcome and still needed; but the single most important need is for the
regular physical presence of SVP's constituency at its readings. To make
that presence available can be a nuisance in the summer when the evenings
are long and warm, as it can be in the winter, when the days are short and
cold. Adding travel and the price of a drink or two to the price of
admission can be expensive. But the poets put themselves out and, sometimes
/ often out of pocket; so, as SVP prepares to be a teenager no longer, all
are asked to renew their commitment, however aged, and justify the effort of
planning a 21st year.
STOP NET NB There is a possibility of an additional reading by Lisa Raphals
between now and the scheduled autumn start
