Edo or Tokugawa Period (1603-1867)
Let us celebrate the Shogunate
of Ishihara, because here was a man with whom
the rest of Asia could do business,
and a man who could sort out the mess,
known as Edo, the man who could balance the books,
and do other tricks, like improve relations
with all the other nations, by asserting
that the Japanese, should once more be
Japanese, the Nihongoness of the sword
and flower, the we can say No to the US,
and give two fingers to Shina, so
he took over from the other Shogun,
a reign notable for introducing
recycling, newspapers, bottles, and
plastic, and for increasing the National
Debt, and the Shogun sits in his Castle,
arrows winging past, critiques from
the press and public, the whole nation
hoping a Kagemusha would stand in for Ishihara,
before it is too late and the city state
of Edo is destroyed in a conflagration.
Meiji Period (1868-1912)
the blackships bombarde Ka-go-shi-MA
with McD hamburgers and Koke a Ko-LA
and bring inside the lucky bags, De-mo-Cra-CY
and as the cannons blare, they light up the sky
like something seen in a Walt Disney Phan-ta-SY
and do wonders for SA-KU-RA-JI-MA.
