|Lawrence: haven't seen so much of sound poetry in performance, but the
|subtle punctuating of a text in the reading process is intriguing. Have
|commented before on the marvellous facial & body tics Erin Moure uses,
|partly as a signal, I guess, that she's totally involved in these words
|she's giving us. More recently have seen Alice Notley's fingers become
|increasingly talon-like while she read form Descent of Alette etc, a
|fascinating effect possibly triggered by nervous energy? Lastly Anne
|Stone, a young Montreal novelist/poet/performer read in Kamloops
|recently (to an attentive audience of 5) some strongly erotic work which
|her arms, face & body conspired to heighten. It was no surprise to
|learn she teaches at Concordia a course called Creative Writhing.
Yes, this is exactly what I am on about - and I am keen to NOT limit it to
sound and vispo - my title started using "Visual Poetry" and now involves
"the visual in poetry" - end of the month at Kings College, for those who
can make it, I shall be talking on this, tcs, coughs and all
Erin Moure is indeed remarkable. Missed her here in Cambridge but she read
at svp a while before
Anyway I'll shut up now so people can tell me more about the word gesture in
multiple languages - or anything else relevant or irreverent
