Lawrence: haven't seen so much of sound poetry in performance, but the
subtle punctuating of a text in the reading process is intriguing. Have
commented before on the marvellous facial & body tics Erin Moure uses,
partly as a signal, I guess, that she's totally involved in these words
she's giving us. More recently have seen Alice Notley's fingers become
increasingly talon-like while she read form Descent of Alette etc, a
fascinating effect possibly triggered by nervous energy? Lastly Anne
Stone, a young Montreal novelist/poet/performer read in Kamloops
recently (to an attentive audience of 5) some strongly erotic work which
her arms, face & body conspired to heighten. It was no surprise to
learn she teaches at Concordia a course called Creative Writhing.
Best, Pete.
