"The tally for the morning so far by the way, is Alison, Elizabeth, Polly (a
warm welcome), and me. So I hope, Douglas, that you feel progress is being
made."
It's certainly a lot cheerier, Anne. Suddenly we're talking about mothers
and fathers when I was beginning to fear we all came out of desiring machines.
Oh, but I welcome too the piercingness of Mr. Wilko, the whirligigness of
Messrs. Kestocheek, and the barkingness of the absent Mr. Riley, and so on.
It's great to feel today we have a full conversation going on.
Out here in Paris, it's financially impossible for me to keep in touch with
any women's or men's poetry that doesn't reach me naturally or via my modest
expenditures. So I'd appreciate being told more about some of the women
poets now mentioned, if that's not too much trouble for some of yous: perhaps
via short excerpts, why they're singled out for praise. I don't have to
share an aesthetic with them to be interested, nor am I asking for considered
critical articles. Owing to various activities of mine, I claim a "need to
know" basis.
