Thanks to Nate for a fine writeup:

- Nate, I think I know what both of you mean: it's clear to me that
Billy's work has some of its origins in parts of objectivist method -
equally, I can see how he's diverging from them in his best work.
Particularly, I think, he's adding a layer of physicality to his language
and construction which you wouldn't find so much in some of the
objectivists, and that works particularly (for me) in the way the pieces
build up into bigger units (the bit you quoted, for instance, quite static
on its own, but resonating far more across the work it's with). I'd've
thought affinities with Zukofsky would've suggested that a hardline
anti-langpo stance wasn't appropriate...

I was particularly impressed by Squires' "Untitled Poem" in the latest
Shearsman (Shearsman 39 - available from Tony Frazer, 47 Dayton Close,
Plymouth PL6 5DX). As with Mills, there's a risk that if one takes the
fragments separately one overlooks the way they "accumulate" into
sequence, with quite closely controlled aural affinities holding the piece
together. Desperately hard to excerpt from.
SHEARSMAN carries an editorial announcement to the effect that the Dayton
Close address is currently the only way to contact the magazine, or the
editor. "The magazine is likely to appear on the internet during the year
2000". Future Shearsman books include Kelvin Corcoran's _When Suzy Was_, a
book of Roy Fisher Interviews and Selected Prose, and two vols of Andrew
Duncan: _Pauper Estate_ and _Switching and Main Exchange_: early
expressions of interest to address above.
