THE PRAGUE REVUE
BOHEMIA'S JOURNAL OF INTERNATIONAL LITERATURE.
ISSUE #6 of THE PRAGUE REVUE is due to be launched in May this year and
will focus on 'The Spanish Generation of 1898,' including translations of
Miguel de Unamuno, Pio Baroja, Ramon Valle Inclan and essays from Anthony
Kerrigan and Anthony Zahareas.
ISSUE #6 also features work by Australian writers Michael Brennan, Louis
Armand, John Millett, Julian Croft, and Justin D'Ath, Czech poet Vit
Kremlicka, Finnish poet Riina Katjavuori, Irish poet Justin Quinn, and
American writers Ian Demsky, Bill Embley, Alice Friman and Suzanne Kamata.
THE PRAGUE REVUE #5 features a tribute to Bohumil Hrabal, the Czech writer
perhaps best known in the West for the novel and film Closely Observed
Trains. Hrabal, who died in 1996, had much of his later prose translated
into English, however Days and Nights, Hrabal's only collection of poetry,
appears in this issue for the first time in any translation, and is
published in its entirety along with 'The World and the Trousers of Samuel
Beckett.' Essays by Alessando Catalano, Karel Srp and Tomas Mazal
(Hrabal's former secretary and director of the dissident group Jazz
Section) discuss the evolution of Hrabal's writing and its significance in
the context of contemporary Czech literature.
ISSUE #5 also features work from renowned Australian poet John Kinsella,
Czech writers Miroslav Holub and Ivan Klima, Scottish writer Janice
Galloway, Finnish poet Helena Sinervo, Polish writer Hanna Krall, an essay
on Beckett's poetry by David Wheatley and photographs by John Minahan. A
special section is devoted to the work of contemporary Portuguese poets,
including Robert Menasse, Antonio Franco Alexandre, Sophia De Mello
Breyner, Mario Cesariny, Nuno Judice, Vasco Graca Moura, Antonio Ramos
Rosa, Piedro Tamen and Paulo Teixeira.
