Quite, Alison, and I salute your bravery in
persisting with this list.
Now that we're on the life raft (thank you,
Randolph and Chris) and
can see each other (hello Helen) I'd just like to
back-paddle and express
my pleasure in Pain's ode to K. Sutherland. Also,
to answer Chris, I've heard
Bob Cobbing at the Diorama, London, and thought he
was stunning. I crept in
while they were setting up and worried it might be
a shambles, but as Bellow
would say, he and Jennifer have the magics. I've
liked samplings I've seen
of Susan Howe, Tina Darragh, and Grace Lake. Roy
Fisher's Bloodaxe selection is
beguiling. Caroline Bergvall reads beautifully.
What do I like in general?--
oh, a bit of drama, passion, maybe. A sense of
project, perceptiveness, some
awareness of collective concerns, a true regard
for language and an openness
to other art-forms. That's all! Sadly lacking elsewhere.
