As to why the women on this list are
silent--there's no one answer, we're a various
bunch. Sally Crawford, Alison from Australia and
I--a long-time Londoner raised in Virginia--have
all posted in the
last fortnight. (By the way, Alison, I'm always
impressed by your contributions.) But yes,
mostly we've scurried in with an event posting,
and out again.
In my case, I find much of the linguistically
innovative work I've read/heard deeply exciting
but I don't know enough of it yet to leap into a
debate. And, ok, I don't fancy having my head
bitten off publicly. Females aren't generally
used to such attentions, although we're getting
there.
Also, you do seem to know one another pretty well.
I know that this is a common mistake--people
roaring together at a party may have met five
minutes before. But do you really want us lurkers
and
slaters to come out of the woodwork?
