The WF Workshop started off for 99 on Saturday.
We had hoped to see Mr Jaeger from Canada, but the Poetry Police seem to
have captured him for metrical experiments. However, Mr Prigov from Russia
was there and was the occasion of the first ever interruption of the
workshop by a ringing mobile phone.
Hi, I'm in the middle of a poem... He brought along a box of hand made
books -
Cyrillic typewriter, scalpel cut outs of pages - formally exciting though I
couldn't read it.
He also performed a poem, a sound poem, from memory and possibly to some
extent improvised which owed considerable debt to the Russian Orthodox
church; but he introduced overtone to a degree I have only heard Paul Dutton
manage. Brilliant performance.
Ms J Pike and Mr L Upton did a movement piece about which all Mr U can say
is Thank goodness it wasn't filmed
Cobbing Upton and Pike performed from Domestic Ambient Noise - what else? -
the first time to my knowledge that Ms Pike has uttered a poem
Bill Griffiths read a fine piece and also launched MR TAPSCOTT A POEM IN
NINE SECTIONS WITH INSERTS AND LIST OF RESOURCES - £3 + post from Amra
WF also published - I don't know - 4 or 5 new titles but as I had no more
money I shall have to announce those another day... But WF has reprinted my
MESSAGES TO SILENCE & UNSENT LETTERS. £2.00 and £2.50 +post I think
There were other contributions including more of me wch I'll spare you but
that's what comes to mind now...
Next workshop is Saturday 30th 3.30 p.m. Upstairs Victoria Mornington
Place - Mornington Crescent tube and then the fortnight after and then the
fortnight after
