Thanks to Lawrence for his excellent write up of Colin Simms reading - I
can second everything he says about Simms' work, and his reading, and his
outlook - the way he links perceptions, the way they build up their own
integrated systems, which are never "finished", always dynamic. And for
his remarks about Colin as field-naturalist (his practice here is also
integrated with his poetry): Simms is the best _observer_ of his
environment - poet or non-poet - I can think of, and I've learned more on
a walk with him than from any amount of other "sources".
Simms sprung to mind on more than one occasion at the Subvoicive
Symposium: (a) in Harriet Tarlo's paper on "writing outside" - obviously -
but also (b) in Alaric's paper on Carlyle Reedy, the unfinishedness, the
ongoingness of her practice, the need to sit back and watch and learn from
it.
Thanks, Lawrence!
