in the Caius College BATEMAN AUDITORIUM, Cambridge
We're lucky to be able to present:
Maxine Chernoff is the author of five books of poetry including NEW FACES
OF 1952, which won the Carl Sandburg Award and the PEN Poetry Award;
JAPAN, and LEAP YEAR DAY: NEW AND SELECTED POEMS. Her books of fiction
include two story collections, BOP (Vintage 1986), which won the
LSU/Southern Review Short Fiction Award; SIGNS OF DEVOTION (Simon and
Schuster), which won the Friends of Literature/SUN-Times Award and was a
NYT Notable Book of 1993. She has also written three novels, the newest
of which, A BOY IN WINTER, will be published by Crown Publishing Group in
August. She is Professor of Creative Writing at San Francisco State
University.
Paul Hoover is the author of seven books of poetry including TOTEM AND
SHADOW: NEW & SELECTED POEMS (Talisman House), VIRIDIAN (University of
Georgia Press, 1997), and THE NOVEL: A POEM (New Directions, 1990). He
has also published a novel, SAIGON, ILLINOIS (Vintage, 1988) and edited
POSTMODERN AMERICAN POETRY (W. W. Norton, 1994). With Maxine Chernoff, he
edits the prominent literary magazine, NEW AMERICAN WRITING. He is
Poet-in-Residence at Columbia College Chicago.
