I've oft thought that Tomlinson's edting of WCW for New Directions was
important for its impact on how many Americans read Williams, why, thus, for
example, Spring & All seemed such a bolt of lightning when Harvey Brown's
Frontier Press brought it out in 1970. But I've always liked American Scenes
enormously and am slowly working my way through the Selected as we speak. He
does seem like a distant antecedant of somebody like Raworth, though through
a filter.
