Writers Forum workshop 27 11 99
Betty Radin launched "WWW" (Writers Forum, November 1999; ISBN 0 86162 976
0)... The text had been discussed at some length in previous workshops so
the presentation of the final thing was somewhat muted. It has been
interesting to see the original idea slowly develop. Some of the final work
owes a little to Cobbing, at Radin's welcome; although he has chosen not to
claim any authorship.
Cobbing and Upton performed the 4th double page at Cobbing's suggestion. I
think it is still Radin's position that her texts are not for performance
but that she has no objection to them being taken as performance texts by
those so minded.
I think what was done was quite unlike the individuals' or their
collaborative style.
Later, at Jennifer Pike's suggestion, C and U took different pages, the
penultimate for Cobbing, I think, and the ultimate for Upton. It produced a
different performance, of course; but nothing from which I would wish to
draw conclusions.
Adrian Clarke read from ongoing work.
Sean Bonney read from ongoing work.
Wayne Clements read from ongoing work. Mr Clements will feature in a
forthcoming issue of SPAD (The next SPAD will feature Halsey, Selerie and
Other, A N)
M J Weller performed a completed work from some time back - I regret I have
forgotten the title.
Doreen King showed "a sound carol", a sequence of visuals
Lawrence Upton launched "Sta!" (housepress, Canada, September 1999, ISBN 1
894174 21 6. The intention had been to launch it with a performance of
prerecorded tape and live voice; but - it's too silly to keep up the third
person here - I decided at the last minute that the tape wasn't good enough.
The performance will take place later, probably at the next workshop.
Therefore, the launch was restricted to an introduction.

to anyone who cares to ask me for it </first person>
Lawrence Upton launched "huming / queuing", (Writers Forum, November 1999
ISBN 0 86162 974 4). Launched with an introduction followed by moderately
extensive readings from both pieces, including the start and end of each.

The next workshop is on 11th December 1999. This will be the last workshop
AT THE VICTORIA. Management is changing and the room is being turned into a
restaurant. The possibility that Saturday poetical experimentation could be
maintained as a feature, but it was thought unproductive to propose it
All are welcome. I find the workshop *very useful. The freedom to just not
do something, as I did on this occasion, or to try out something knowing it
may not work and without any worries etc is highly productive...
