Nothing per se. There's just an ideology which takes the "makes" out of
the equation and replaces it with "marketing", on the way erasing
everything about the product except its existence as a unit of
marketability. That's why I shudder when I hear the word, anyway. It
usually goes with "arts industry".
I like the feel of "produce" a bit better. It suggests cornocupias and
all good things, no doubt because it's becoming a little archaic, and I
doubt it's in the glossaries of MBA courses.
