Ken Edwards has reported already on the Third SV Colloquium on the british
and irish poets list so I shall type up my notes excluding those which would
in any duplicate his. I'd rather other people spoke...
It was frightfully busy and I regretted not having had fewer people and
giving each longer.
At one point there were 47 present, which is more than respectable.
Proceedings started 30 mins late because the equipment wasn't made ready
for us. After that we were left to ourselves and all went swimmingly... At
the previous colloquium we had to keep moving rooms
Thanks to all contributors, not just for sticking to time but for accepting
time as an issue so actively. By the end of the day we had slipped 50 mins
and that is pretty amazing considering the 30 min late start and the 10 min
addition to Trevor Joyce's set - because we hadn't seenhim before and he was
so interesting. In other word, we lost 10 mins ourselves... not bad, not bad
The request for people to speak extempore was answered to greater and lesser
extents. Some just read papers while the Manager's Choice Awards have to go
to Trevor Joyce and Tony Lopez.
Trevor Joyce read a few things such as a statement from Randolph Healy which
I would like to see written down! and then TALKED without paper support...
Tony had two OHPs and, apart from that, not much, some pieces of paper on a
table in a pattern which seemed to confuse him, with which he sought to get
himself into an odd space and then get out of it - and the result was
excellent!
As indicated, not everyone felt able to supply & that's ok. It remains an
aim and one which, as Trevor and Tony showed, is quite achievable
The programme will remain at the svp website; and any other documentary
material which comes to hand will be put there directly or via links
I'd like to thank all contributors for their great efforts for no material
reward
One issue - a few contributors went away with written materials which are or
will be eventually in a publishable state
I'd like to keep track of that publication so that a note can be made at the
svp website - get in contact!
Apart from that, I don't want to say any more. I am too close to it; and I
am in the curious situation of being sick of the whole thing and very glad
that we did it all!
