I've been reading the postings on
career poets and similar threads
with interest
A letter I got this morning seems to typify the issue
to some extent.
I had a submission of poetry from a lady who writes
"I intend to do a masters degree in creative writing and
have been informed that I should attempt to get my work published"
She apparently attend a couple of writers group and
she has obtained address of publications from published
writers within these groups.
she goes on to say
"I don't read much of other poets work, (unless I have
to at the meetings) as I don't really like poetry,
I just write as therapy"
What on earth makes her think that if she herself
won't read other poets, anyone will want to read her stuff
is quite beyond me.
Since her fellow writers have overlooked to inform her
of the fundamental necessity to send an sae
when submitting work to an editor
she won't be getting a reply.
Her attitude is one that I (and other small-press editors)
come across all too often.
