I'm sorry but you really can't subjectify the definition of "verse" into an
intuitively perceived lack of quality as against "poetry". It simply means
language subjected to number, metre and rhyme, as in "versification".
Haven't we subjectified enough concepts in this area yet?-- we've
completely lost the definition of poetry already. If verse just becomes
inferior poetry then immediately nobody really knows what it means.
I'm trying hard myself to know what everyone means by all this about
2nd-persons and Truth. I'm not getting very far but I thought you'd all
like to know I'm trying. Doesn't a reader normally eavesdrop on a poem
rather than receive direct messages, whether the poem uses dramatic
addressor not? So that the perception of "truth" is bound to be
complicated. Unless poeple mean True in the sense of True to, Faithful.
I'm also trying to find out what people don't like about Birthday Letters
except that it's sold millions, is by the late Poet Laureate, has won every
prize going and addresses a 2nd person. Really, no one has said.
Sorry this is very clipped dinner's ready.
