Just thought I'd mention a wonderful poetry reading I had the chance to
attend on Thursday. It was the Northern? launch of the anthology Other,
featuring four of the contributors. It was preceding the Friday conference
on anthologies held at Edge Hill University Collage in Ormskirk, Lancs.
The reading was well attended by an appreciative or sympathetic audience and
in the dining room of the Collage.
The conference organiser and faculty member at edge Hill Robert Sheppard
introduced the night and read from Ric Caddel's prepared foreword to the
reading then read his work from the anthology. The next up was Bill
Griffiths
who read from several of his publications including Mr Tapscott, all of
which weere well recieved. I had never heard Bill read before but I was
impressed, he was gently relentless.
Ken Edwards had some very good material, poems in a number of styles, and
Maggie O'Sullivan ended the evening
with her inovative poetry.
The conference was also well attended and there where some interesting
sessions. The absolute star session had to be Lawrence Upton's anecdotal
retelling of the history of Word score utterance choreography etc. Backed
up with Wolfgang Gortschacher talking about little magazines and
anthologies. Fabulous and enjoyable session.
