TRENT INSTITUTE FOR HEALTH SERVICES RESEARCH
MEDICAL STATISTICIAN
Required to assist Trent Institute and NHS staff with statistical
analysis, teaching and developing research proposals in health
services research. Candidates should possess a postgraduate
qualification in medical statistics, and have experience of analysing
datasets using a range of statistical software, including SPSS. The
ability to work independently and as part of a team is important.
Salary will be within the range £15,735 - £17,570 per annum (under
review), depending on qualifications and experience. This post is
available from October 1999 and will be offered on a fixed-term
contract for a period of two years.

Medical Statistician
Location: Trent Institute for Health Services Research, Medical
School, Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham
Job title: Research Assistant (statistician)
Grade: 1B.
Reports to: Director of the Nottingham Unit of the Trent Institute.
Main purpose of To assist Trent Institute and NHS staff with
statistical analysis, teaching and The post: developing research
proposals in health services research.
Duties & responsibilities:
-to carry out specific health services research projects with
minimal day-to-day supervision.
- to supervise students involved in those projects.
- to answer technical queries and carry out specified analyses on
existing datasets
- to contribute to the Institute's statistical
consultancy services.
- to participate in the postgraduate teaching programme of the
Institute
- there will be an opportunity to pursue his/her own research
interests
- any other reasonable duties.

Experience and attributes required:
- a higher degree in Medical Statistics
- some experience in medical statistics/epidemiology
- familiarity with a range of statistical software.

- good oral/written communication skills.
