Description of post:
This is a full-time post funded for two years. The
successful applicant will be situated in the Department of
Medical Statistics and Computing. The incumbent will be
responsible for data management and statistical analysis
for a large study of the genetics of asthma. Data has been
collected on 400 families, average family size 4.7 members,
each of which contains at least 2 children with asthma.
The allergic and asthmatic phenotype of each family member
has been carefully described using a number of
questionnaires and clinical tests. DNA from each family
member is currently being analysed with the aim of
discovering genes responsible for asthma.
The needs of the genetics group are two-fold: firstly for
the statistician to assess the likelihood of individual
genes being associated with clinical aspects of asthma;
secondly to assist in analysing the clinical data set in
its own right in order to describe the epidemiology of
asthma and its components in this population.
An MSc in Medical Statistics and experience in using SAS
would be desirable.
Applicants can contact Dr J Holloway on (01703) 798758 or

Salary range: £16,286 - £18,186.
Starting date: We would like the incumbent in post
by 1st October 1999.
