capture-recapture problem".
We are looking for a PHD-Student
We ask a completed academic education in econometrics, statistics,
mathematics, biometrics or social sciences (with a specialization in
statistics or psychometrics).
Your task will be to carry out a project directed at the estimation of the
size of an unknown population. The estimation is based on linkage of the
records of individuals in two or more registration systems (also known
under the name "capture-recapture problem"). An example is to estimate the
number of homeless from linked records of two registration systems, namely
a medical registration system and a social registration system. Here the
statistical
problem is to estimate the number of homeless that is in neither of the two
registration systems. In this project we will further develop estimation
methods (see for a description of this project
http://www.fss.uu.nl/ms/pheijden/aio.html). This project is carried out in
collaboration with TNO Prevention and Health and the Department of Medical
Statistics of Leiden University.

suspects of a penal offence using the Recognition System of the Dutch
police. For this purpose the
number of times will be counted that specific individuals are reported for
this offence. These counts are used to estimate the number of individuals
that are not in the Recognition System of the police, but that can be
suspected of the same offence (see for a description of this project
http://www.fss.uu.nl/ms/pheijden/postdoceng.html). This project is carried

We ask a completed dissertation in the area of econometrics, statistics,
psychometrics, biometrics or mathematics.
