Department of Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics
PhD Studentship in modelling the wind and wave climate
Applications are invited for an EPSRC studentship, starting in October
1999, in the physical and statistical modelling of the offshore wind
and wave climate. The objective is to further develop understanding
of the relationship between wind speed, wave height, wave steepness
and other metocean variables, in order to assist the offshore and
maritime communities in design and safety issues. Of particular
interest is the prediction of extremes of the wind and wave climate.
The project would be jointly supervised in the above two departments,
and there would be opportunities to focus on the particular interests
of the successful candidate.
The usual EPSRC financial support would be supplemented by the
University, and there would also be opportunities for demonstrating
and other work, possibly including consultancy.
