Lancaster University. Department of Mathematics and Statistics
Research Associate in the Medical Statistics Unit
This fixed-term post is for a research associate to work with Prof.
Peter Diggle and Sally Hollis to support two studies in the Medical
Statistics Unit: ‘Veterinary Epidemiology' (MAFF funded), and
'North West Diabetes Services Performance Indicators' (DoH and
BDA funded). The post is based in Lancaster but involves
collaboration with researchers at Liverpool and Manchester
Universities.
The veterinary project will use spatial and longitudinal analysis of
E. Coli prevalence in beef and dairy farms to investigate the nature
of spread of bacteria between farms and the effect of environmental
and management variables on this contamination. The diabetes
project will investigate statistical methodology for robust clinical
performance indicators based on diabetic population register data
with varying completeness. This project will focus on longitudinal
analysis and methods for handling missing data.
Applicants should hold a higher degree in statistics and show
commitment to collaborative research involving the development
and application of innovative statistical methods. Previous
experience of working with large-scale studies, and of computing in
the Splus environment, are desirable but not essential.
The post is available for a 2.5 year fixed-term appointment initially,
with start date 1 October 1999.
Salary on the RA1A scale (15,735 to 17,570 pounds per year).
