This 18-month position within this 5-rated research centre requires applicants
with good communication skills to contribute to the Centre's teaching programme
and consultancy service. You will be expected to develop your own research,
have a postgraduate qualification in Statistics and evidence of an emerging
publication profile. An interest in statistical modelling, social statistics or
longitudinal data analysis would be an advantage.
The Centre for Applied Statistics is primarily a research and
consultancy centre, providing support to the University in all areas of
statistics through statistical consultancy, postgraduate training and short
courses and having an active research programme in social statistics.
You would be expected to contribute to both the consultancy and
postgraduate training aspects of the Centre's activities. A broad general
knowledge of statistical methods and statistical models is required, as well as
an enthusiasm to impart the ideas of statistics to researchers and postgraduate
students from other disciplines. Good communication skills are important, as
is knowledge of a range of statistical software. The lectureship will be based
in a 5 rated research group, and you will be expected to be developing your
own research career, which will be centred around the broad areas of Applied
Statistics and statistical modelling.
Together with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the Statistics
Group at Lancaster consists of around thirty academic staff and researchers,
and a similar number of postgraduate students. There is a thriving RSS Local
Group, and a well attended seminar series and postgraduate statistics forum.
You would be expected to play an active role in such activities, and to present
papers and attend meetings away from Lancaster.
The appointment is fixed term for eighteen months and is available from 1st
October, 1999.
