I have obtained great value over the years from the text on
non-parametric statistics by Sidney Siegel and N.J. Castellan,
published in paperback by McGraw-Hill c1980. This is an update of
an ealier text by authot S. Siegel alone. Particular virtues of
these texts are that they offer a sound but readily
understandable theoretical basis for the methods which they
describe (they also do a good job of explaining exact randomisation
tests) and they are full of good examples.
These books are written for social scientists. If your client
group'w interest area is very different then there *may* be
some better choice.
