Title: Wavelet Thresholding and Penalty functions
Abstract:
Both soft and hard wavelet thresholding rules can be viewed in terms of
penalized least-squares with particular penalty functions. We shall look
at alternative wavelet
regression techniques which result from altering the penalty function.
In particular, in order to find a compromise between methods with global
smoothness constraints and current wavelet techniques, in line with
smoothing splines, we replace the penalty by one that involves higher
order derivatives of the function of interest.
