The news media in the past day have made great play of the prosecution
claim that two cot deaths in one family had a "probability of one in 73
million". Am I correct in assuming this is another travesty of method,
in taking some figure such as 'one in 8500 UK children die without
explanation in the first year of life' and squaring it?
If anyone has specific knowledge, please send it straight to the list to
