Job advertisement: Research Assistant in medical statistics
The UK Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS) is a landmark study of type 2
diabetes. Over a twenty-year period, 5,102 patients took part in 23 centres
around the UK. The results announced in 1998 have life-saving implications
for the treatment of diabetic patients.
On behalf of the UKPDS Group, the Diabetes Research Laboratories at Oxford
University are developing a mathematical model for the risk of certain
nonfatal and fatal events in diabetic patients. We seek a research assistant
for this project. Essential qualifications are familiarity with statistical
methods such as maximum likelihood estimation, and experience in programming
in a language such as C, Fortran or Basic. An interest in diabetes or in
medicine in general would be useful, as would a degree or Masters degree in
statistics or a similar subject.
Salary will be on the RS/1A scale (14,286-24,479).
Applicants should send a CV to Ms Elizabeth Elton, Personnel Officer, Diabetes
Research Laboratories, Radcliffe Infirmary, Woodstock Road, Oxford OX2 6HE by
31st October 1999. Further information is available from Dr Richard Stevens
at the same address ([log in to unmask] ; 01865-224463).
