RSS STATISTICAL IMAGE ANALYSIS AND PROCESSING STUDY GROUP
FIRST MEETING
Perspectives on Image Analysis
Wednesday 17 November, 2.30pm-5.15pm (Tea 3.45pm) at the RSS
BRIAN RIPLEY (University of Oxford)
Some Statistical Contributions to Image Analysis and fMRI
Summary: The first half of the talk will survey the role of
stochastic models in image analysis over the last 15 years.
The second part will cover recent work on the analysis of
functional MRI data, covering image processing, visualization
and inference.
JOSEF KITTLER (University of Surrey)
Information Fusion in Image Interpretation
Summary: Conventionally image interpretation involves extracting
a suitable representation of the image content and devising a
suitable decision making scheme (expert) which uses the
representation to interpret the content in terms of a predefined
vocabulary. Recently considerable interest has been generated
by the benefits that appear to be offered by the use of
multiple experts to make decisions. In the talk, multiple expert
fusion approaches will be discussed and their potential role
in image interpretation illustrated on examples in character
recognition, personal identity verification and mammographic
image analysis.
The meeting will take place at the Royal Statistical Society,
12 Errol Street, London EC1Y 8LX (nearest underground stations:
Old Street, Moorgate and Barbican). Tel: 0171 - 638 8998
