TEST TUBE HISTORIES
An evening of words and images celebrating 21 years of in vitro fertilisation
Organised by Progress Educational Trust
Tuesday 9 November, 6.30pm
The Royal Society, 6 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1
Louise Brown, the first 'test tube' baby, was born in the summer of 1978.
Over the 21 years since her birth, IVF has become a routine medical
treatment available throughout the world. But it continues to attract
attention from the media, the public and from politicians.
The two lectures at Test tube histories will look back over the
developments in assisted reproduction since the birth of Louise Brown and
consider how public attitudes to IVF have changed over the years. To
accompany the lectures, Progress Educational Trust has commissioned 21
years of IVF, a visual history of in vitro fertilisation. A special viewing
of 21 years of IVF will take place after the lectures.
