GRADUATE STUDENT SYMPOSIUM ON GENDER
State University of New York at Buffalo
Saturday, March 25, 2000
ABSTRACTS DUE: February 4, 2000
DIALOGUES: What is gender as we end the 20th and enter the 21st Century?
Abstracts of any research that in some way relate to this question are
welcome. The following list is meant to be suggestive though not
exhaustive:
What is the dialogue between gender and society? How does gender
intersect with race? Class? Sexuality? Ethnicity?
What is the dialogue between gender and the sciences? How does gender
influence disease? Health?
What is the dialogue between gender and theory? What is the relationship
between gender and power? Work? Identity? Family? Public policy?
What is the dialogue between gender and the arts? New media and the
image? Artistic expression?
What is the dialogue between gender and the academy? The academic
disciplines?
The broad category of gender will unite current graduate research emerging
from a variety of disciplines and theoretical perspectives. We are
particularly interested in submissions stemming from the biological
sciences and the arts as well as those considering race, the relationship
between genders, and between generations of feminists. Papers that
address the historic dimension of the question will be given special
consideration.
Submissions are welcomed from all disciplines within the arts, sciences,
and humanities.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
We invite 200-300 word abstracts for the conference. The presentation of
research may take several different formats, including, though not limited
to, papers (resulting from group work and individuals), roundtable
discussions, slide presentations, readings and performances.
Presentations should be 12-15 minutes in duration. Please include two
copies of your submission including a title. The researcher's name should
not appear on the abstract. Also include a cover sheet providing your
name, institutional affiliation, address, phone number, and email address.
Please forward all abstracts to:
