Please find below second call for papers for 'Educational Technology
& Society (ISSN 1436-4522) peer-reviewed journal on special theme:
On-line Collaborative Learning Environments

http://ifets.gmd.de/periodical/

The rapid developments in networking and the growth of the
Internet/World Wide Web and associated software tools is
stimulating a range of innovative educational applications
that are influencing both the curriculum and teaching/learning
methods. One important development is that of collaborative
learning in which the educational enterprise encourages
interactions (both synchronous and asynchronous) between
students and teachers within and between institutions.
Collaboration thus extends and has potential benefits for
teachers as well as students.

This special issue will focus on On-line Collaborative
Learning Environments and their associated interactions.
Topics include the pedagogic and learning approaches that
enable collaborative methods to be effective; the
technological and training supports that are needed; the
nature of collaborative dialogues and interactions; techniques
of assimilating these methods within curricula; appropriate
evaluation methodologies, and changes in attitudes and reward
structures that may be required within institutions.

We invite submissions covering these aspects that fall into
the following categories.

* full length articles describing research results,
presented through discussion and comparative analysis methods
  (about 5000 words);
* short feature articles presenting case studies, and work
in progress (about 2500 words); and
* critiques, reviews, individual experience (about 1500 words).

Initial proposals (about 1000 words) should be concise and
contain the main theses of the proposed paper. They should be
forwarded to the guest editor as a plain text in a body of an
email message by Friday October 1st 1999. Proposals will be
considered on first come-first service basis thus allowing for
more flexible planning of your further work.

sections as appropriate, using short, meaningful sub-headings.
