I generally take a template image and average it with itself flipped.
This can be done via the ImCalc button:
1) Select the image
2) Enter a filename for the output
3) Enter an expression such as: (i1+flipud(i1))/2
flipud is used rather than fliplr because Matlab and SPM deal with
transposed images (its a Fortran/C thing).
