Dear Prof. Moss,
Indeed there has been a few papers in the last few years (in
workshops like ATAL and MAAMAW, and even ICMAS) approaching (or at
least mentioning) the problem that you described (which many people
in MAS consider a very important one, but I'm not quite sure I
agree). That is, they try to tackle what they call the "gap" between
practical BDI architectures and BDI logics. The major result on these
efforts, I should think, is Rao's "AgentSpeak(L)", an agent
programming language that is practical but has been shown to bear
sufficient relations to the BDI theory.

Yes, but "nonsymbolic" agents a far too poor for what I believe the
ambition of SimSoc (and indeed MAS in general) should be. At any
rate, I'm a great adept of Prof. Castelfranchi's claim that some
problems in Social Sciences (e.g., the micro-macro link problem) can
only be solved when we realise that there is no dichotomy between the
cognitive and emergent trends; on the contrary, they need to be
brought together. I shan't speak more about this as Prof.
Castelfranchi has done so himself to this very discussion list.
Kindest regards,
Rafael Bordini
