Three opportunities exist for Mathematical Scientists/Modellers to join the
Mathematics and Decision Systems Group at Silsoe Research Institute,
Bedford, England.
The Group carries out research and development into systems level modelling
in agri-food in order to develop understanding and provide advice to policy
makers and improve decision making by the industry. The scale ranges from
optimal control of the greenhouse environment, through determining optimum
fungicide treatments for a wheat crop, to predicting future land use under
climate change. Risk and uncertainty are major factors in all these
systems. The posts, which are initially for 3 years at post-graduate or
post-doctoral level, include:
* modelling uncertainty and risk;
* developing, testing and applying models of agricultural systems;
* modelling and analysis of temporal and spatial data, real-time
optimisation and process control.
Applicants with OR qualifications would be welcome (currently 2 members of
the group are members of the OR Society) and it may be possible to register
with a University for a PhD.
