The term Durk drift is commonly found in the Arkengarthdale mines and refers
to a hand level i.e smaller than a horse level. It is usually used to refer
to a sublevel on vein. At the beggining of the 19th century the term Rolly
way or Rolly drift is used to decribe the same feature. This apears to
indicate an exchange of terminology with the coal mines of the North East
where corves were moved underground on Rolly waggons.
In Arkengarthdale a boat level is a mythical feature only seen by people who
need new glasses.
