As regards Pen y clun engine house and chimney, this has been looked at and
survey by a number of organisations. Limited action is now in hand. It is,
however, unlikely that the chimney will ever be fully stabilised - a costly
engineering nightmare - but some limited work to prevent further erosion of
the ground around the base is feasible.
But my argument is that we can concentrate too much on specific structures
and ignore the landscape in which they are set.
