MUSEUMS COMPUTER GROUP
Spring/Summer Meeting - Regency Town House, Hove, East Sussex
2nd & 3rd June 1999
This meeting will be of special interest to smaller institutions who wish to develop multimedia exhibits on limited funds.
Wednesday, 2nd June, 2pm - 5.30pm
Nick Tyson and the Town House team will demonstrate software to document architectural and decorative details in Brighton's town-houses and for presenting digital copies of rare and fragile books. They will also showcase a multimedia authoring package developed with funding from DCMS specifically for use in smaller museums.
A meal will be organised at the nearby Richards restaurant at 7.30pm (delegates to pay).
Thursday, 3rd June, 9.30am - 1pm
Delegates to choose one of the following workshops/visits:
A. At the Town House, delegates can experiment with multimedia authoring software and have a stab at developing their own presentation.
B. Visit to Cognitive Applications, who work extensively in the museum realm, and Barton Brothers, who will show us some 3D animations of ancient inventions.
C. Visit to Brighton Museum to see 'My Brighton' (an interactive oral history system) and 'Our City' (Royal Pavilion) with John Roles.
Thursday, 3rd June, 2pm - 4pm
Presentations from Apple UK on the role of computing in education, Cognitive Applications, Desktop Display, who developed 'My Brighton', John Roles and Barton Brothers.
Notes on the workshop (A):
Delegates should bring along some appropriate digitised images and other resource files. For details of what is needed, e-mail [log in to unmask] and ask for the 'MGC workshop notes'. (This session is being organised with the support of Apple Computer who have generously offered to lend us a number of iMAC computers.)
NOTE: Delegates will be asked for a small donation of around £2 on the door to cover admin costs. Lunch and other meals are not included.
