At UWS our policy is to give users the automatic BLDSC renewal in
advance (3+3 or 3+12 weeks) and do not allow any further renewals.
Users are free however to request the book again, but must complete
another authorised request form. This rarely happens due to the cost,
which is charged back to depts.
If we can renew a book free of charge from a non-BLDSC library we will do
so.
The restricted access loans from LDSU also cause us problems: a
significant number are returned without having been used which is a
waste. I agree that we should have a choice about whether we want
these items to be sent or not.
Processing these books is also time-consuming: we have to put a
wrapper round which includes a security tag. This (should) stop users
from taking books out of the library, but of course does not stop
them from from ignoring instructions about NO PHOTOCOPYING....
another sore point. How do you others manage your restricted access
ILLs?
