I have been reading various responses with interest. As a school librarian
with almost 2 years experience in my current post I am registered as a Route
B Candidate, and am in the process of writing up my submission. It seems
that what used to happen in the pre PDR days was that after this two year
period the LA chartered you regardless - I may have got this wrong but
that's the impression I got after a few conversations with older librarians.
Some are quite suprised at the amount of work I have to do in order to
make my submission. The main reason I am doing it to be truthful is the
payrise. As my council has a different payscale for chartered and qualified
librarians. But having said that I do feel I have learnt a lot in my
present job, even if its more to do with managing management, and school
pupils, than librarianship. My report is not very exciting but this really
reflects my role in the school and the scope of my job. If the LA looks at
each one individually, they should judge it on my job description, not on
what other people have in their reports.
