I have just been sent a NZ Herald article on Oecussi-Ambeno, the East
Timorese fragment/enclave in West Timor, an area ignored almost in the
reporting to date. As the 'consultation' result will not be broken down by
region, the chance for these Timorese to integrate with West timor is lost.
To me it would have been sensible to decide separately for the 2 parts of
East Timor.
The article does not appear to be available on the NZ Herald website
(www.nzherald.co.nz),
but is referenced below:
"Quiet anomaly a hotspot-in-waiting" by Hamish McDonald, NZ Herald, 28-29
August 1999, page A1. There is a footer for the Sydneyn morning Herald, so
the article may appear there too.

Of other interest is the "Bateman Contemporary Atlas New Zealand, The
Shapes of Our Nation". Reviewed in the NZHerald (Aug 21-22 1999, pA18), the
atlas concentrates on distribution maps, to give asense of NZ, epitomised
by amapand table of Auckland's dairy (milk-bar/mixed business/small
grocer's) ownership showing 80% are run by Indians now.
