A number of 'unsubscribe' messages have recently been posted to the list.
Not only do these annoy those on the list, interested in job vacancies, who
receive the messages, they also fail in their intended purpose. Those
sending the messages do not get taken off the list unless I take specific
action to remove them on the next occasion I do list maintenance.
Unfortunately there is no solution to this problem - despite the fact that
unsubscribe instructions are provided on every message distributed by
gis-jobs:
X-Unsub: To leave, send text 'leave gis-jobs' to [log in to unmask]
X-List-Unsubscribe: <mailto:[log in to unmask]>
people make mistakes, usually through no fault of their own. Likewise it is
harder for those wanting to subscribe to get details of how to subscribe so
they make mistakes too.
Occasionally, subscribers cannot leave the list because their system
managers have changed the form of their email address. In this case it
becomes impossible to unsubscribe because the mailbase system cannot match
their new email address to the one with which they subscribed. The only
solution in that case is to send me an email (telling me what your current
and previous email addresses are) at:
[log in to unmask]
so I can deal with the problem
One solution would be for me to make the list moderated and for me to screen
every message posted. I am not prepared to do that because the workload, and
the delays, that would generate would make the service useless.
I am afraid that all I can suggest is that anyone who finds the occasional
'noise' among the job postings too much to bear should unsubscribe from this
list. Sorry.
